Lab results help the consultation focus on your specific situation rather than general advice. They make it possible to plan your diet with your metabolic markers, health status and medications in mind.
Basic tests
Basic tests include a complete blood count, lipid profile, liver markers and glucose metabolism markers, as well as the other markers in the full list. Additional tests are not needed by everyone - they are chosen individually based on medical history, complaints and health status.
How to prepare for a blood test
Fasting: do not eat for 10-12 hours before the test. Longer fasting is not needed and may slightly change metabolic markers.
For 1-2 days before the test, avoid fatty and fried food and alcohol.
On the morning of the test, do not drink coffee - water only. Drink two glasses of water before the blood draw.
Avoid exercise for 24, preferably 36 hours before the test.
Do not stop medications or supplements on your own, but write down everything you take. The exceptions are biotin and iron supplements - exact instructions are in the full list.
If you already have results
If the tests were done within the last 2 months, there is no need to repeat them.
Lab tests are part of the assessment, not a diagnosis. A single marker outside the range does not by itself mean a disease, and a result within the range does not fully rule one out. A diagnosis is made by a doctor.
